Hope for Bereaved celebrating 35 years, planning holiday outreach

The Butterfly Garden on Onondaga Lake Parkway is the group's symbol, but Hope for Bereaved offers grief counseling year-round

Hope for Bereaved is celebrating 35 years of offering grief counseling and support to Central New York.

Therese Schoeneck, who says she has no plans to retire, says they'll mark the anniversary with November 1st's dinner dance at the Syracuse Oncenter. Silent auction items there will include baskets and tribute jewelry, donated by people who've been helped by the services offered.

Hope does an annual re-dedication at Onondaga Lake Parkway's Butterfly Garden of Hope, and year-round services include twelve support groups, tailored to specific bereavements (widowed, loss of a parent, suicide victim, etc) As the holidays approach, they also do special programs on coping with 'special days' when bereaved.

Schoeneck would like to hear from people who've used Hope's services over the years, as they mark this 35th anniversary.
