Support for families of enlisting or deployed military

Support services for families and loved ones 'back home' after military enlistments or deployments

Family members here in Central New York, with loved ones just enlisting in the military or being deployed, can get information and support from a pair of support groups.

Bev Allen is the mother of a deployed Marine. She and her husband run Syracuse Marine Parent, which oversees a pair of support groups for all military-related families in the area.

Boot Camp Support Meetings are the first Tuesday of each month, 7pm, at the North Syracuse Denny's (South Bay at Lawrence Road). Bev says they answer questions, share joys and fears, and offer a shoulder to lean on.

General Support meetings are for all military families from deployment and beyond, as well as veterans. They meet 3rd Wednesdays, 6:30pm at the East Syracuse VFW, 6996 East Taft Road, and ask participants to bring a snack or dish to share.

Syracuse Marine Parents also do care packages for troops twice a year (name submissions welcome from the community) and help with the Hancock Airport military courtesy room.
