1 dead, 7 injured after early morning shootings in Syracuse

Syracuse police are investigating two separate shootings that have left one man dead and seven other people injured.

The first shooting happened Sunday at 1:44am in front of the B&B lounge on South Avenue. Police say three people were shot during a fight outside the bar. Rodney Maddux, 23, of Syracuse was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Jonathan Powell, 24, is currently in stable condition and Dashawn Patterson, 30, has multiple gunshot wounds. She is in serious condition.

According to witnesses, a fight started near the front door of the bar between several females and that led to other fights. The suspect is described as a black male and he fired multiple rounds from a handgun.

The second shooting happened Sunday at 2am at 2125 Midland Avenue. Police say five victims were hit by a blast from a shotgun. It appears they were hit with bird shot. None of the victim's injuries are life threatening.

Police say the suspect is a black male who was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. The suspect was seen leaving the scene in a black SUV. According to witnesses, a party was being thrown at this location when a fight started.

At this point, police do not believe the shootings are related. Police also believe there were numerous people at the scene of both shootings, and are looking for witnesses' help.
