An 11-year-old girl from Herkimer County lost her hand, after losing control of an off-road utility vehicle.
State Police say Ciearra Camarata was driving too fast on James Road in Salisbury when the vehicle flipped over. It landed on the driver's side severing Ciearra's hand.
She was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica and flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
The crash happened Sunday morning just before noon.
Two passengers, a 5-year-old boy, and a 12-year-old girl, were not hurt.
According to state law, children 10 years old and older may operate all terrain vehicles -- as long as they're under adult supervision and on their parents' property.
