A dozen dogs that were found malnourished and neglected are recovering after being rescued from a home in Herkimer County.
Twelve dogs were taken from a home on Route 28 between Middleville and Herkimer on Saturday and brought to the Herkimer County Humane Society.
The dogs all showed various stages of neglect, according to the shelter??s Facebook page, including severe skin disease, starvation, vision problems and a broken leg that was never treated.
The shelter says all the dogs tested positive for Lyme disease.
An investigation is under way and charges pending.
The shelter says that people can help the dogs by donating canned food and blankets. The shelter is running low on both.
