A Syracuse teenager has pleaded guilty to lesser charges in the beating death of a 51-year-old man who was attacked at random as part of a "knockout game."
The Post-Standard reports that the 13-year-old boy pleaded guilty to felony assault and attempted assault before his trial was scheduled to start Thursday in Onondaga County Family Court. The teen had initially been charged with manslaughter.
He and a then-15-year-old boy were arrested after Michael Daniels died a day after police say the two teens punched him as he stood outside a corner store on May 23. Police say the boys were competing to knock him out with one punch.
The trial for the other teen, now 16, was held earlier this week. The judge says he'll render a verdict Monday.
