15-year-old arrested for attacking Syracuse man with a hatchet, stealing his bike

A teen robbery suspect is arrested after hitting a victim in the head with a hatchet and stealing his bicycle.

Syracuse Police were called to the Crouse Hospital emergency room at about 11:40 Monday night after a 46-year-old man walked in with cuts on his face and head. The victim told police he was riding his bike on the 1000 block of East Adams Street when he was approached by the two suspects.

Police say the suspects hit the victim in the head with a hatchet before stealing his bike and taking off.

Later, officers spotted the two suspects with the bicycle on the 800 block of Harrison Street. As officers approached the suspects they ran. Officers detained the suspect with the bike, but the other escaped.

The 15-year-old suspect is now charged with robbery and assault, along with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property.

The suspect is being held at the Hillbrook Detention Facility awaiting arraignment.

The name of the teen suspect is not being released, due to his age. Police are still looking for the second suspect. The victimâ??s injuries were not considered life threatening.
