19 year-old caused crash that shutdown portion of I-81

The Onondaga County Sheriffâ??s office says a 19 year-old man from Syracuse is responsible for the crash that shut down parts of I-81 south today between Mattydale and the Thruway.

Deputies responded to the crash around 6:22 p.m. and closed that portion of the highway in the Town of Salina.

Witnesses told deputies Shaddy Singh was driving a red Infiniti G35 through traffic at high speeds, swerving through lanes until losing control of his car when he side-swiped another vehicle.

Singhâ??s car hit the center median and stopped in the southbound lanes. Deputies say debris from the car scattered across both the north and south bound lanes of traffic.

Singh is being treated at University Hospital for chest pains. No one else was injured in the crash.

Deputies issued Singh traffic tickets for imprudent speed and unsafe lane change
