A 19 year-old male is charged with rape and endangering the welfare of a child after Auburn police say he had sexual relations with a 14 year-old girl.
Police arrested Jacob Jackson after the victim and a family member filed a complaint and the police department opened an investigation. The investigation revealed Jackson met the victim when he was a senior at Auburn High School and she was a freshman. Police say Jackson and the victim had a sexual relationship near the end of June in 2013, after the school year ended.
Police say that although it is believed the act was consensual, the victim was not able to grant consent due to her age. Jackson was interviewed during the investigation and cooperated with police.
Jackson turned himself in to the Auburn Police Department on Thursday and was arrested for rape and endangering the welfare of a child. He was released on his own recognizance.
Auburn police are unsure if there were any other people involved with the suspected in a related or similar case. They are asking anyone with additional information to contact them at 258-9880 or 253-3231.
