1911 Spirits of Lafayette to sell vodka onboard cruise ships

Beginning this month, when you set sail on a cruise, you might be able to buy vodka made at a Central New York distillery.

1911 Spirits, a small craft distillery owned by Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards, will sell its vodka onboard cruise ships.

The distillery made the announcement Tuesday, saying it would begin selling its premium, award winning, small batch vodka in shops onboard Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Norwegian Cruise Lines this month.

It's the first small craft product in the United States to be sold on the cruise lines. 1911 Spirits Vodka is produced from apples, in an old fashion triple distillation technique.

In a press release Tuesday, Steve Brennan of 1911 Spirits said, "We are honored to have our premium small batch vodka selected to be sold onboard these prestigious cruise lines. With over 400 micro distilleries in the United States itâ??s a great privilege to represent New Yorkâ??s Distilling boom."

The vodka will be featured on ten ships, including Norwegian Cruise Line's newest ship "Breakaway," which is based in New York.

This good news for the distillery is also good news for the economy. 1911 Spirits, and its parent company Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards, plan to add new jobs in all areas of the farm and distillery business.
