2 arrests in Sylvan Beach drug search that forced evacuations

Investigators on the scene of a possible meth lab in Sylvan Beach

Hours after a police search turned a Sylvan Beach neighborhood upside down, with evacuations because of a bomb scare, police say they have made two arrests.

Oneida County Sheriff's Deputies executed a search warrant at 1419 15th Avenue for a possible meth lab Wednesday morning, but were concerned when they found a "canister-type device", which they thought could have been a bomb. Neighbors were evacuated as a precaution, and so the bomb squad could investigate the device. There was no threat found.

However, investigators say their search warrant did turn up evidence of meth and heroin.

According to the Oneida County Sheriffâ??s Office, Scott F. Leisner, 44, and Chrystal M. Palmeter, 42, of 1524 15th Avenue are charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree, all class A misdemeanors. Both were arraigned in the Village of Sylvan Beach Court on those charges and remanded to the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.
