According to the Onondaga County Sheriffâ??s Office, two separate car crashes that happened within a quarter of a mile of each other caused 690 north to close down Thursday.
Around 5:30p.m. deputies responded to a reported three car crash on the highway between Van Buren Road and Downer Street.
On the way to the scene, deputies were called to a second crash involving four cars on the same stretch of highway.
The first crash happened when Jennifer Cerio, 38, of Baldwinsville, hit the tail end of another car. The car that was rear-ended was driven by Trisha Hewitt, 34, of Pennellville. She was slowing down because traffic at the time was backed up from the Downer Street exit.
The crash started a chain reaction causing Hewitt to hit a third car, driven by Nicholas Luciano, 19, of Wolcott. Luciano. Two passengers, Christie Luciano, 50, and Angella Luciano, 19, were riding with him when the crash occurred.
Deputies say the second crash happened when Andrew Orr, 33, of Cicero, hit the tail end of a car driven by Matthew Bulger, 43, of Baldwinsville.
That started another chain reaction which sent Bulger into the back of a car driven by Tracy Monica, 33, of Phoenix. Monicaâ??s car then hit a car driven by Melissa Sliter, 41, of Redcreek.
Orr was transported to Crouse Hospital to be treated for a foot injury. Monica was taken to Crouse Hospital to be treated for back and neck injuries. Bulger was transported to Upstate University Hospital for head and neck injuries.
All injuries were considered non-life threatening. No tickets have been issued at this time.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
690 north has since re-opened to all traffic.
