3 puppies left in scalding hot car in Western New York

A western New York man is facing animal cruelty charges after investigators say he left three puppies in a crate in the back of his car as he shopped in the Eastview Mall late Monday night.

Ontario County Sheriffâ??s Deputies arrested 47-year-old Nathan Stephens, who faces three counts of animal cruelty and unlicensed operation charges, among others.

It was 70 degrees outside when Ontario County Humane Society Investigator Bill McGuigan arrived at the car.

â??After looking at the car, all I could see was pink tongues inside the crate, and they were panting. At that point I used a laser thermometer we carry in our vehicles.â??

McGuigan said the temperature inside the car was well over 100 degrees.
