3-year-old released from hospital after allegedly beaten by motherâ??s boyfriend

A 3-year-old who was taken to the hospital in critical condition after he was allegedly beaten by his motherâ??s live-in boyfriend has been released from the hospital, according to the Onondaga County Sheriffâ??s Office.

The child was seen walking and talking upon release from the hospital on July 9, deputies say.

The 3-year-old was found in and out of consciousness at the family's Cicero home by medical personnel. Deputies say the child had extensive bruising and marks on his body when he was taken to the hospital on June 28. He was released from the hospital 11 days later.

Deputies say John Bonitz, 27, allegedly punched and kicked the 3-year-old, which caused internal injuries to the child.

Deputies also say they found that 27-year-old Amanda Bishopâ??s other two children, ages 7 and 10, had several bruises on their bodies. Itâ??s alleged that she had punched her 7-year-old child with a closed fist.

All three children are currently in the custody of the Onondaga County Department of Social Services.

Bonitz was arrested and charged with felony assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned in the Town of Cicero court and is currently being held on $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond at the Justice Center.

Bishop was arrested and charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child, and obstructing governmental administration, all misdemeanors. Bishop is currently being held on $10,000.00 cash/bond at the Justice Center.
