A 30-year veteran of the New York State Police force died after the single-engine plane he was flying crashed into a wooded lot, just north of Sacandaga Lake in Saratoga County.
Senior Investigator Timothy Cowper was off-duty when his plane crash-landed in Edinburg.
The experienced pilot was 55 years old.
Cowper was assigned to Division Headquarters in Albany, and spent most of his career serving the Capitol Region. Trooper Cowper also worked in New York City, and also spent some time protecting neighbors in Central New York, as a member of Troop D. He joined the State Police force in 1983, and was promoted to Senior Investigator in 2006.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board is investigating what may have caused the crash.
