5 heroin overdoses in 24 hours in Syracuse, one death

Heroin-related overdose spike in Syracuse

Syracuse police are investigating a sudden spike in heroin-related overdose cases. Police say five separate cases have occurred over the past 24 hours.

Police say one of the cases appears to have resulted in the death of a woman. All five cases are under investigation, so police would not release any additional information on Friday night.

Police say they are immediately stepping up drug enforcement efforts to reduce the likelihood of additional victims and reduce the sale and use of illicit drugs.

Anyone with information about the sale of heroin or other drugs in the city is asked to call police at 442-5222.
