68th Election Day spaghetti dinner at Our Lady of Pompei

Volunteers at Our Lady of Pompei have spent the last couple of weeks working around the clock in the kitchen.

Cooking up 6,000 meatballs, 700 pounds of pasta, and 200 gallons of spaghetti sauce made with their secret recipe.

This is one of the main fundraisers for the the school, which serves a large number of refugee families in the community.

For local politicians, the spaghetti dinner has become a tradition. They say when it comes to Election Day in Syracuse and central New York, the spaghetti dinner at Our Lady of Pompei is the place to be.

"I've been in elected office for 40 years from school board on up and this has always been the place to be on Election Day. It's really interesting because you see everybody and people who have been fighting are getting along here and having a great time," Senator John DeFrancisco said.
