70 residents evacuated from retirement home in Cortlandville are all safe

When flash floods rushed into Cortlandville Thursday night, Robert and Deborah Lang didn't realize how it would impact his parents.

The couple found out Friday the elderly couple was evacuated from the Walden Place retirement home on Bennie Road to the Holiday Inn nearby.

The Lang's drove up from Delaware County today to help relocate his parents who are now staying with other family in the area.

The 70 residents who were evacuated from the complex are now safe staying with family, at the Holiday Inn in Cortland or at the Cortland Regional Medical Center.

"When you talk about parents that are 95 years old, you have a concern. You're worried about their well being and how well they're handling the situation. We had a concern, we knew that we needed to come and be here for them and just watch over them," says Deborah Lang. "They adapt very very well. This is their home environment and they're gonna wanna come home. This is their home, and they're going to want to come back."

"My feeling is they're doing a great job getting people in here to clean up almost immediately but as far as the evacuation goes as far as I can tell, things went smoothly. They got their immediate belongings that they needed, medicines and that stuff," says Robert Lang.
