      84th annual Academy Award nominations announced

      The 84th annual Academy Award nominations were announced in Beverly Hills, Calif., by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday morning.


      The nominees for best picture are: â??War Horseâ??; â??The Artistâ??; â??Moneyballâ??; â??The Descendantsâ??; â??Tree of Lifeâ??; â??Midnight in Parisâ??; â??The Helpâ??; â??Hugoâ??; and â??Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close."

      The nominees for lead actress in a motion picture are: Glenn Close, "Albert Nobbs"; Viola Davis, "The Help"; Rooney Mara, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"; Meryl Streep, "The Iron Lady"; Michelle Williams, "My Week with Marilyn."

      The nominees for supporting actor in a motion picture are: Kenneth Branagh, "My Week with Marilyn"; Jonah Hill, "Moneyball"; Nick Nolte, "Warrior"; Christopher Plummer, "Beginners"; Max von Sydow, "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close."

      The nominees for supporting actress in a motion picture are: Octavia Spencer, "The Help"; Berenice Bejo, "The Artist"; Jessica Chastain, "The Help"; Janet McTeer ("Albert Nobbs"); and Melissa McCarthy, "Bridesmaids."



      The Oscars will be presented Feb. 26 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by Billy Crystal and broadcast live on ABC.
