93-year-old woman dies in an apartment fire in Rome

Authorities say a 93-year-old woman has been killed in a fire at a central New York apartment building.

Fire officials in the city of Rome tell local media outlets that the fire was reported around 3 p.m. Monday at building on Black River Boulevard in the city of Rome.

Officials say the blaze was confined to one apartment in the six-unit building. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.

Authorities say the woman, Virginia Johnson, was found dead in her apartment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
