Accused Liverpool stabber had history of domestic violence
We now know the names of the victims in the double homicide that stirred a quiet neighborhood in Liverpool, and we're learning more about the man accused in the crime and his relationship with the victims.
Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh says two women, 30-year-old Samantha Rainwater and 24-year-old Brandy Dallas, were stabbed to death in Rainwater's Second Street home Monday morning. Another woman, thought to be in her thirties, was hurt in the incident after the suspect pushed her down a flight of stairs.
Investigators say the suspect, 26-year-old Justin Dallas, of Syracuse, was married to one of the women, Brandy Dallas, and knew the others.
Rainwater and Dallas died from their injuries. Rainwater was pronounced dead at the scene, Dallas died on the way to the hopsital. The third victim is recovering from her wounds, which are described as minor, and is expected to be okay. Investigators say she lived downstairs and was the person who first called 911.
Here's what investigators know so far
Dallas was dropped off at the 915 Second Street
address Monday morning
where his wife, Brandy, sometimes stayed.
That's when some sort of argument ensued on the first floor of the home.
Walsh says Dallas used a folding, pocket-type of a knife to stab the women, multiple times.
After, Dallas ran from the scene, and investigators say he stole his wife's vehicle.
Sheriff's deputies and the Liverpool Police Chief chased Dallas into Onondaga Lake Park, where he abandoned his vehicle and jumped into the water.
Investigators say Justin Dallas was arrested for an incident of domestic violence in July, accused of menacing and unlawful imprisonment. Investigators say he held his wife
down so that she couldn't leave. A representative from the District Attorney's Office says there was an order of protection in place and the case was pending grand jury action
Investigators say Justin Dallas and Rainwater worked at Upstate University Hospital together and that they were friends, but Justin was suspended following the July incident.
Justin and Brandy ha
two children together, 8-years-old and 3-years-old, respectively. Investigators say the children are receiving counseling and are in the care of family. They did not live at the Second Street address.
Meanwhile, investigators say Rainwater had a 12-year-old who did live in the home.
No children were at the address at the time of the stabbing; they were all in school.
Dallas is charged with the following:
Murder - First Degree - One Count
Murder - Second Degree - Two Counts
Criminal Possession of a Weapon - Fourth Degree
He was arraigned in Liverpool Village Court Monday evening and pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
