Four mosquito samples in Oswego County have tested positive for EEE, according to the Oswego County Health Department. Three of the samples were found near Central Square and the other was found in West Monroe.
Now, the Health Department is planning aerial spraying of the affected areas on Thursday, July 31 or Friday, August 1.
Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang says, â??We are continuing to monitor the forecast and plan to conduct aerial spraying between 6 and 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 31 or Friday, August 1.â??
If any changes are made to the spraying schedule, the changes will be posted on cnycentral.com and on the Oswego County website, found here.
The spraying area will cover about 10,000 acres within the boundaries of U.S. Route 11 in Central Square to the west, State Route 49 to the north, up to, but not including the Village of Constantia to the east and the shoreline of Oneida Lake to the south.
The Health Department says that they will not spray over Oneida Lake.
The Health Department recommends that neighbors in the spray area:
-Keep pets indoors.
-Close vents on window air conditioners.
-Remove outdoor toys and furniture as well as clothing from the clothesline. Items left outdoors should be washed thoroughly with soap and water before using.
-Close car windows and vents if driving through the area during spraying.
-Cover gardens and rinse fruits and vegetables well before cooking or eating.
