After much delay, Sylvan Beach Amusement Park Opens for summer
Neighbors and visitors had to wait a little longer for the Sylvan Beach Amusement Park to open this year.
The park, which typically opens Memorial Day weekend along with the beach and numerous seasonal establishments, remained closed for several weeks because of insurance and inspection setbacks.
After much speculation on whether the park would open at all this season, the Sylvan Beach Amusement Park officially opened on Wednesday afternoon.
With temperatures hovering around 90 degrees, many beach-goers stayed close to the cooler shores of Sylvan Beach, but a steady stream of families and thrill seekers were on the scene as staff members arrived at ride platforms and carnival games opened their booths for the summer. Despite the parks opening, some rides along with the popular Yesterday's Royal Restaurant, remain closed.
"We came here two years ago and were fascinated by it. It was pretty empty. We liked the short lines. We're used to packed amusement parks so it's pretty charming here," said Hallie Varenka of Rochester. "We've been looking forward to it and planning to come here for a few weeks."
The Sylvan Beach Amusement Park is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
