ALERT: Boil water advisory continues for Montezuma water system
Fri, 25 Feb 2011 17:19:20 GMT —
The boil water advisory continues for those using the Montezuma Public Water Supply. CNY Central first told you about the advisory last week.
The water main break has been fixed, water pressures have returned to normal and the water storage tank is re-filling, but the boil water order will stay in effect until at least Wednesday.
Do not drink the water without boiling it first. Bring your water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using it. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice.
The boil water advisory was issued by the Cayuga County Health Department on Friday when the water system lost pressure due to a water leak.
A boil water advisory is in effect for those who use the Montezuma Public Water System.
The Cayuga County Health Department issued the advisory when the water system lost pressure due to a water leak earlier today. That means there is a chance that untreated water and harmful microbes could enter the system. When the water is restored, all customers are ordered to boil their water for drinking and cooking.
Health officials say you should not drink water without boiling it first. They advise you to bring water to a boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using it. Boiling your water kills most bacteria and other organisms in it.
Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice.
Right now, the Town of Montezuma is working to fix the leak. Once it's repaired, bacteria tests will take place to make sure the water quality has not been compromised. Town leaders say you should expect to boil your water for the next five days.
