Amherst man caught with drugs/illegal cigarettes at State Fair

New York State Police arrested an Amherst man while at the State Fair when troopers say they found nearly one hundred cartons of untaxed cigarettes and drugs in his car.

Troopers arrested 66-year-old James T. Scherer Jr. for criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal sale of marijuana and possession/transportation of un-stamped cigarettes.

State Police investigator Richard Dix noticed Scherer selling cigarettes from the trunk of his car near the Infield Restaurant on the Fairgrounds.

Troopers seized 91 cartons of untaxed cigarettes, 16 grams of marijuana, .6 grams of cocaine and over $2,000 in cash.
