Another SUNY Upstate administrator steps down amid compensation investigation

Steven Brady

Upstate Medical University has confirmed that another administrator has stepped down in the wake of an investigation into the
compensation of Dr. David Smith.

66-year-old Steven C. Brady, senior Vice President for Administration and Finance, retired today, according to Upstate officials.

Brady is affiliated with the outside medical company, MedBest, that Dr. Smith is accused of taking compensation from.

Brady may see some of the same allegations as Dr. Smith, where investigators are trying to find out if he padded his pay without SUNY Upstate permission.

Last week, SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher addressed Smith's alleged actions in a letter that outlined four directives for Smith, including "substantial repayments." The exact amounts of the repayments have not yet been determined.
