Police say an autopsy is planned for a man who created a violent disturbance in an upstate New York church and then died after being restrained by witnesses.
According to State Police, the man entered St. Mary's Church in Indian Lake during a Saturday afternoon service. He reportedly shouted obscenities and threw objects at parishioners, injuring two people. Members of the church restrained the man, who resisted before becoming unresponsive.
Emergency crews unsuccessfully tried to revive the man, identified Sunday as 44-year-old local resident Jason Berg.
Police say Berg was armed with a loaded pistol and had extra ammunition and a pocket knife.
Several churchgoers reported hearing gunshots before Berg entered the church, but a search found no evidence of that.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
