A man who Syracuse police describe as a convicted felon was arrested outside the funeral of Syracuse's latest murder victim, on Friday afternoon.
Richard Jamison, 23, from Syracuse, was tackled in front of Peoples AME Zion Church on South Salina Street, after being pointed out as having a gun. Police say he had the gun in his hand as he ran into a crowd of at least 100 people, who'd just come from the funeral of Bryan Sheppard. Sheppard was stabbed to death early last Saturday morning (June 7th), and there's been an arrest in the homicide.
The gun was a loaded .38 calibre revolver, and Jamison reportedly told police he had extra ammunition and rubber gloves, in case he needed to use the gun.
The Syracuse Police Gang Violence Task Force and uniformed officers were monitoring the church on Friday afternoon, during the Sheppard funeral, 'to prevent any further gang violence.'
