Arrest made after a woman is beaten in a Syracuse robbery

The Syracuse Police say in an email that they responded to the 100 block of Hall Avenue at about 12:30 AM on Sunday morning after a report of a strong armed robbery.

After arriving, officer Eric Gerace located the 23-year-old female victim, who had a swollen face.

The victim said that she had just met the male suspect on the 100 block of Hall Avenue at a house party. She said that the two had left the party together and were walking on Hall Avenue when the suspect punched her several times in the face and stole her cell phone and purse, which had personal items and cash.

Officer Gerace immediately began a search of the area and located a man on the 100 block of Hall Avenue that matched the suspect's description. The investigation showed that the man, identified as 24-year-old Charles Campbell of 241 West Corning Avenue in Syracuse, was was the robbery suspect, police say in the email.

Items from the robbery were found within close proximity to Campbell and he was taken into custody.

Campbell was charged with robbery and assault was lodged in the Justice Center. He was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday in Syracuse City Criminal Court.

The victim was taken to Upstate Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
