Arrest made in connection to theft of puppy from Finger Lakes SPCA
AUBURN, N.Y. —
Auburn Police say a man accused of breaking in to the Finger Lakes SPCA earlier this month and stealing a puppy has been arrested.
Police say William Butler of Union Springs is facing charges of third-degree Burglary, fourth-degree Criminal Mischief and Petit Larceny.
The charges come in connection to a burglary at the Finger Lakes SPCA in Auburn earlier this month. Investigators say on May 4 someone broke in to the SPCA and stole a 10-week-old pit bull puppy named Jed. The puppy was found safe two days later.
Investigators say the believe Butler had seen Jed at the SPCA before the alleged theft. After the theft, the puppy was given to a juvenile, according to investigators.
The puppy was found after "numerous anonymous tips," according to police.
Besides these charges, Butler was also arrested on a warrant for DWI and several other charges.
