Auburn man arrested after police say he touched himself in front of a 4-year-old child

Patrick J. Catlin

Auburn Police arrested a man for masturbating in front of a 4-year-old child in a Family Video store.

Police say 36-year-old Patrick J. Catlin, a transient from Auburn, went into the Family Video on 48 East Genesee Street on May 3, exposed his genitals and masturbated in front of the child before taking off on foot. The child was not touched or injured, police say.

On May 5, officers found Catlin at 99 South Street and arrested him.

Catlin is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and public lewdness.

This is not the first time Catlin has exhibited this type of behavior, investigators say.

He has been arrested three other times for the same behavior since December 2011. The most recent incident was in March, when he was charged in two separate incidents at the Wegmans store on 1 Loop Road. In that incident, Catlin masturbated in front of a 9-year-old child.
