A Cayuga County man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of 28-year-old Matthew Prego.
29-year-old Kevin Ritchie was convicted of stabbing Prego to death after a fight on Case Avenue in Auburn September 28.
Ritchie was also sentenced to 2 and a half to seven years for several other charges, including assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
Police say Ritchie had beaten and choked Matt Pregoâ??s girlfriend, and when Prego arrived at 33 Case Avenue to pick her up, the two started to fight.
Police say Ritchie left, and returned less than a minute later with a large knife and stabbed Prego four times in the chest and abdomen and then ran.
Ritchie was able to get rid of the knife, officials say, which was never found. He was found hiding in bushes by police.
