Auburn Police shoot man in Order of Protection dispute

Auburn Police have identified the man shot and killed by officers during an order of protection incident

The man Auburn Police shot and killed on Saturday night is now identified as 45 year old Jeffrey Harris.

Police were called to 11 Barber Street just before 11:30 on Saturday night, with a woman saying her estranged husband was trying to break into her apartment, in violation of her order of protection.

As they were interviewing the woman in the apartment, police say Harris forced his way inside, armed with a meat cleaver and threatening officers.

Police say he came in through a basement door, into the living area, and rushed at an officer.

The officer fired four shots withhis department sidearm, killing Harris.

Both officers who responded to the call have been placed on administrative leave. Their names will be withheld for 72 hours, as per department policy. An investigation into the incident is underway.
