An Auburn man is charged with murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend.
39-year-old Ryan Brahney was arraigned in Auburn City Court Monday morning. He is accused of stabbing 29-year-old Bridget Bell multiple times, while their 3-year-old son slept in the other room.
Brahney was arraigned on murder in the second degree and criminal contempt.
Auburn police were called to the Olympia Terrace Apartments around 1:15 a.m. Monday. They found 29-year-old Bridget Bell dead in her apartment. Their 3-year-old son was found asleep and unharmed in an upstairs bedroom.
Now, Bell's friends and family are devastated. Her friend, Kristylynn Dougherty, says the world lost a fun, adventurous woman, who loved her friends and family.
"Bridget was an amazing person, a great friend, a wonderful mom, and we're going to miss her a lot," says Dougherty.
Prosecutors say Bell's ex-boyfriend, Ryan Brahney, has a criminal history. Cayuga County Chief Assistant District Attorney Christopher Valdina says Brahney was convicted of an assault in the 1990s that did not involve Bell. Valdina says Brahney was also charged with assaulting Bell, and in August, Brahney was accused of violating an order of protection and breaking Bell's coffee table.
Brahney was facing criminal mischief and criminal contempt charges for that. Valdina says those charges were scheduled for trial in January, and Brahney was not held on bail for those charges. Now, after being charged with Bell's murder, Brahney is being held without bail. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
