Authorities continue search for escaped Hillbrook juvenile

Dennis Rice

Onondaga Community College students received an alert warning them about a 15 year-old who escaped from Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center on Sunday.

The sheriffâ??s department says Dennis Rice jumped a fence at Hillbrook on Sunday afternoon.

OCC Communications Coordinator Roger Mirabito says a student saw Rice come out of the woods near OCC later on Sunday.

The student says Rice asked for a ride and then asked for a change of clothes. When the student refused, Mirabito says Rice grabbed the studentâ??s cell phone, but the student was able to get the phone back. Mirabito says the student was not assaulted and Rice then left the area on foot.

Onondaga County Sheriffâ??s deputies were still looking for Rice on Monday morning.

In a message to OCC students, the school said "Students are advised to travel in groups and not to transport strangers in personal vehicles." OCC also reminded students to not help strangers enter campus residence halls or other buildings. As of 1:00 pm Monday, operations had returned to normal at OCC.
