Authorities searching for two men who attacked Good Samaritan in Oneida County
The search is on for two men who attacked a Good Samaritan outside his home in Verona.
Oneida County deputies say the two men had asked for the man's help when their car broke down outside his home. It happened on route 365 about a mile down the road from the Turning Stone Casino.
Deputies say the man called 911 before going outside to help, and it was a good thing he did. When he came outside, the men hit the victim in the back of the head with an unidentified object. They took off when the victim said that police were on the way.
The victim, whose name is Brad, spoke to us off camera. He has a bump on his head from being hit, but says otherwise he's feeling okay and just wants to move on.
Authorities say Brad made the right move by calling 911 before going outside. " Anybody can be vulnerable to this type of activity. Again, you need to have a strategy and a plan," says Chief Deputy Jon Owens.
Owens says there are ways to help protect yourself from these situations; call authorities and keep a locked door between you and the person. Also, take a mental picture of the area.
"Know your surroundings and take a look when the people come up and see if you can remember some key identifiers such descriptors of the person, descriptor of the car, a partial license plate - all of those things will aid us in an investigation," says Owens.
Authorities are looking for a silver or gray id 1990s Volkswagen vehicle. Oneida County authorities also encourage anyone who's experienced a similar incident to call them with information.
