Bad weather halts rescue helicopter mission to bad Madison County crash

Four people are in the hospital Friday evening after a bad crash in Madison County involving two vehicles. The crash happened 5:20 p.m., on Swamp Road, at the intersection of Fearon Road, north of the Village of Morrisville in Smithfield.

Two vehicles, one sedan and one SUV were involved. The driver of the sedan has been identified as David Verne, 18, of Morrisville. Madison County Sheriff's deputies say he was crossing Swamp Road at the intersection when a SUV collided head on with the sedan's passenger side. Verne had one passenger in the car with him, Reese Daily, 19, also of Morrisville.

Deputies say the driver of the SUV was identified as Kristin Boice, 46, of Sherburne. She has one passenger in the vehicle, her son Corey Boice, 18.

All of the people involved in the crash were taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. A helicopter that had been requested for one victim, because of the severity of the injuries, had to cancel en route to the crash site because of poor weather conditions, investigators say.

Deputies say Dailey was most seriously injured, but an update on his condition is not available at this time.

Swamp Road was shut down between Fearon and Old County Roads.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
