Be careful while driving - travel advisories issued across CNY

If you venture out on the snow-covered streets today, make sure to drive carefully. Several police agencies have issued travel advisories due to the difficult driving conditions.

In Cortland County, the Sheriff's department is warning of hazardous road conditions and poor visibility along with dangerously cold winds. Deputies are asking you to travel with caution, keep an extra blanket, flashlight, food and water in your car in case of an emergency. Also, remember to dress in layers.

In Madison County, officials have also issued a travel advisory due to the persistent snow. It includes all county, state and local roadways. Officials there are advising you to give yourself adequate time to get where you're going and make sure to leave extra room between you and the car in front of you.

The city of Utica has declared a snow emergency, which will take effect at 10:00 p.m. Thursday. All cars must be off city streets or risk being ticketed and/or towed. No parking is allowed during a snow emergency, to include odd/even parking and parking permits.

Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies have also issued a county-wide travel advisory. They are asking drivers to use caution while driving due to blowing and drifting snow.
