Cazenovia's Beezie Madden is ready to defend her Equestrian World Cup title.

The 2014 FEI World Cup kicks off Friday in Lyon, France.

Last year, Madden won the prestigious show jumping competition with her horse, Simon. "It was an incredible honor to win last year, truly one of the highlights of my career. To get the chance to try again with Simon is fantastic. It would mean so much to our team to bring home the championship to the USA again," said Madden in a press release.

This will be Madden's 13th appearance at the World Cup Finals. The first round of the competition begins Friday, the second round is on Saturday and the final round is on Monday.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist has been riding Simon since the end of 2011. Simon was her #2 for the London Olympics. The 15 year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding is owned by Mrs. Abigail Wexner and is trained by John Madden Sales in Nelson.

Simon was named the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) International Horse of the Year for 2013. Madden received the USEF Equestrian of the Year honors for 2013.
