Big money to Syracuse for Drones

Syracuse-based SRCTec has a big contract that will further drone research

Syracuse will be seeing some money--and perhaps new jobs--thanks to drone research.

Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) says SRCTec, Syracuse-based, has won a $7.2 million dollar contract to produce new radar systems at Fort Drum and nine other Army test sites around the country. Rome's Griffiss facility is also expected to benefit from the latest initiative.

The ground-based radar will allow drones to comply with FAA regulations when flying in national airspace without a chase plane or ground observer.

Schumer says the project's moving forward will bring jobs, and millions of dollars in high-tech investment
