Bill to name Post Office after fallen Baldwinsville veteran passes House

Corporal Kyle Schneider

Representative Anne Marie Buerkle presented a bill to the House of Representatives on June 27 that would change the name of the U.S. Post Office at 26 East Genesee Street in Baldwinsville in honor of Corporal Kyle R. Schneider.

Schneider, a town of Phoenix resident who lost his life in an explosion in Afghanistan last June, is remembered for his kindness and upbeat attitude.

"Life was fun for Kyle," said Jeanne Dangle, Baldwinsville Superintendent. "When he left here, he was a kid and he was a great student and athlete. He just smiled all the time."

Buerkle called Schneider an American hero. The new name of the post office will be the "Corporal Kyle Schneider Post Office Building."

"He was a proud and valiant Marine. He was also a son, a brother, a grandson, a fiancée, friend, and comrade," Buerkle said in a press release. "Kyle is greatly missed, and no words will diminish the grief of those who knew and loved him. In his death, he has earned the thanks of a grateful nation."

Kyle is a 2006 graduate of Baker High School in Baldwinsville. He was recently engaged to Theresa Dodge who serves in the Air Force, they met while Kyle was stationed in Washington D.C.

The bill will be voted on by the Senate at a later date.
