Binghamton man sentenced after sexually abusing and killing a former schoolmate

A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for killing a former schoolmate whose body was found in a creek bed outside Binghamton.

The Binghamton Press and Sun-Bulletin reports that Alan Outman of Johnson City was sentenced Friday in Broome County Court after pleading guilty in September to a charge of first-degree murder.

Outman told a judge he sexually abused and killed 21-year-old David Fillers of Dickinson behind a motel in the town of Vestal on New Year's Day.

Broome County Sheriff David Harder said Fillers was staying with friends at a downtown Binghamton hotel on New Year's Eve but got separated from them. Investigators say he and Outman ended up at the same motel in nearby Vestal, where Filler's body was found the next morning.
