Boaters need to watch for debris and high waters

Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh has issued an advisory regarding

hazardous conditions in and around the waterways of Onondaga County.

The Onondaga County Sheriffâ??s Office Marine Unit has surveyed area waterways and found high water levels,

along with significant amounts of floating debris, caused by recent rains.

Effective immediately, the New York

State Canal Corporation has closed the entire canal system from the Hudson River to Cayuga County. Included

in the closures are the locks ranging from Lock E-6 in Waterford to Lock E-25 in Mayâ??s Point, as well as the

Oswego Canal north from Phoenix to Lake Ontario.

Closures will remain in effect until at least Monday.
