Body of man who tried to save a boy swept away in Black River found in Watertown
Wed, 08 May 2013 15:49:11 GMT — The body of the man who jumped into the Black River in attempts to save a little boy who had been swept away was found in the water in Watertown on Wednesday. Edward Lee Whitfield III, 47, jumped in the Black River to save 5-year-old Zachary Finley who fell into the river while fishing about two weeks ago. Whitfield was described as a family friend. Watertown Police say Whitfieldâ??s body was recovered from the river at the Hydro Racks in Glen Park. Police say Bradley Sheehan, an employee of Northbrook Energy NY LLC, spotted the body in the river. A rescue crew entered the water and brought the body to shore where it was positively identified as Whitfield. It was turned over to the Jefferson County Medical Examinerâ??s Office. Zacharyâ??s body was found at a hydroelectric dam down river hours later after he fell in the river. A funeral was held for Zachary last week.
