Tue, 02 Apr 2013 17:19:38 GMT — An Oneida County man is under arrest after police say he caused a major fire at an apartment building last week. The Oneida County District Attorneyâ??s Office confirms to CNY Central that 34-year-old David Geer is charged with felony second degree arson. He is accused of using a lit cigarette to set a mattress on fire in his apartment at 167 Main Street in Boonville. The resulting fire destroyed the 1890s-era building and damaged the structure next door. The DAâ??s office says Geer is also accused of failing to call 911 to report the fire, and preventing neighbors from putting it out. Geer was arraigned in Steuben Town Court Monday night and taken to the Oneida County Jail on $5,000 bail. More than two dozen people reportedly lived in the destroyed apartment building. None of them were injured. The fire remains under investigation, and more charges may be forthcoming.
