Boy Scouts plant flags on veterans?? graves for Memorial Day

Boy Scouts from Troop 407 help World War II Veteran Bill Waters plant flags on Veterans graves at Belle Isle Cemetery in Lakeland

Boy Scouts from Troop 407 helped World War Two Veteran Bill Waters plant flags on Veterans graves at Belle Isle Cemetery in Lakeland ahead of Memorial Day weekend.

A small but determined group of Boy Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 407 turned out at Belle Isle Cemetery in Lakeland on Friday to place flags on veterans?? graves for Memorial Day weekend.

The Boy Scouts helped World War Two veteran Bill Waters. For years Waters, a US Marine who fought in WW II, and several other veterans with the Solvay-Geddes Veterans group have taken care of veterans graves in four different cemeteries.

Waters is the last veteran left to tend to the flags, and when his knees started hurting him he knew he needed some help.

When the Boy Scouts from Troop 407 heard Waters needed help, they volunteered to plant the flags.

For the Scouts, it was an eye opening experience that made them appreciate the sacrifices veterans have made. The scouts plan to come back and help again next year.

For Waters, knowing that his fellow veterans?? graves will be looked after in the future brings a sense of relief and hope for the future.

"I'm so thankful for their help. All veterans, no matter when or where they served, deserve this," he says.
