Infant rushed to the hospital after house fire breaks out in Syracuse

CNY Central

Fire crews were called to a fire at a multi-family home in Syracuse early Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out at 2:30 a.m. at a home on the 400th block of Pond Street near Park Street.

Fire officials say a language barrier between the caller and dispatchers made it hard for crews to find the location of the fire.

The District Fire Chief was passing by the home when he heard the smoke detector going off and notified firefighters of the home's actual location.

Dispatchers say the fire was confined to one bedroom.

The District Fire Chief says an infant was transported to a nearby hospital, but their condition is unclear.

Fire investigators tell us the cause of the fire appears to be an unattended candle.
