It will be a few years before the girls at Onondaga Community College's basketball camp will even wear the same shoe size as two-time national champion Breanna Stewart, but a visit from the UConn Huskies standout has aspiring basketball players dreaming big.
"I mean I'm not going to get as tall as her, but I hope that one day I can go into the WNBA," said camper Alexia Chemotti. "She's really good and I hope that one day I can be at least half as good as her."
Today the recently crowned Best Female College Athlete spoke with campers, signed shirts, shoes, basketballs, even iPhones, and instantly became the idol of every girl on OCC's court.
"I want to be like her when I grow up," declared camper Allison Cole. "I might go to UConn, I'm not sure, but I want to follow in her footsteps."
Stewart embraces her role as an ambassador for her sport, and is thrilled to turn a few fellow Syracuse natives into Huskies fans.
"I'm just trying to be myself and help spread the awareness for women's basketball and show people, especially young girls in this community, that they can reach their dreams if they really set their minds to it," said Stewart. "To hear that maybe I've created some UConn fans here in Syracuse is pretty funny, I'll take that."
