Breast cancer crusader Carol Baldwin hospitalized with pneumonia

Carol Baldwin, mother of celebrity children and fierce advocate and fundraiser for breast cancer research, was admitted to the hospital last week and is being treated for pneumonia.

The 83-year-old Baldwin is the founder of The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, which has awarded more than 72 research grants totaling in excess of $4 million to medical research.

Baldwin survived a battle with cancer in 1990 and made it her goal to help other women that were fighting against the disease. Family members are concerned about her health - although they say Baldwin has indicated she wants to attend a weekend fundraiser featuring singer Benny Mardones. The event is Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Sharkey's in Liverpool.
