Brothers convicted in asbestos fraud scheme

A federal court jury says two upstate New York brothers are guilty of illegally dumping asbestos.

Paul Mancuso of Utica was convicted Wednesday in federal court of seven counts, including conspiracy to defraud the United States and violating the federal Clean Air and Superfund acts between 2003 and 2005

Steven Mancuso, a 38-year-old Utica lawyer, was found guilty of one count of conspiring with his brother to defraud the United States. He was accused of creating fraudulent documents to help conceal his brother's illegal asbestos activities.

Paul Mancuso, who's 45, faces up to 10 years in prison. His brother faces up to 5 years.

      Sentencing is Feb. 24.

The men's father and a third brother pleaded guilty earlier in the case.
